How do you test what is in your water?

As Chemist & Biochemist, we’ve developed the ability to test in the field, on-site the metals and biologicals such as fecal coliform. Because of our extensive experience, we are able to utilize industrial-quality laboratory spectrophotometers on-site for the most prevalent issues. So, how do you test what is in your water? What is the best test for drinking water?
There are two very good choices.
#1. Call SpringPure for an on-site test, which is not only quicker, but also it is testing the water while it is fresh. Some toxins in the water may degrade between sampling, delivery, and time on a shelf before testing occurs.
#2. For extensive testing, in most cases, we recommend sampling on a Monday or Tuesday:
- sampling water from your kitchen sink after running 1-5 minutes
- using an unopened new purified water bottle
- empty the purified water into a glass for future drinking
- slowly fill the bottle to the top & cap it, allowing no air bubbles in the bottle.
- Drive it down to your county extension office. For a reasonable fee, they will transfer it to proper bottles for the particular tests desired, and ship it overnight to the state-certified lab they use. Be prepared to pay them with a check or cash only.
- They will email you the results, usually by Friday.
How do you know if water is safe to drink?
It is best to speak with a water purification specialist whose primary expertise is purification. Often well or plumbing companies supplement their revenues by adding water treatment to their sales, but it is best to speak with a water purification specialist who is aware of the particular contaminants in your area.
That way, the right toxins are tested, and a system capable of removing those particular toxins of concern is purchased, installed, and programmed properly. It is never possible to test for every possible contaminant. This is why the SpringPure MAX Catalytic Filter is recommended.

Are drinking water test kits accurate?
The two options above are generally the best and most affordable. Most tests purchased for home use on the web, Home Depot, or various “strip tests” can give general ideas about water quality, but most of these color tests can be very difficult to read, sometimes totally off the mark, and usually do not cover the breadth of testing you need.
